Samsung Stratosphere on Verizon: Could This Be The Galaxy S2?

With the recent rumor that Sprint’s Galaxy S2 will be known as the Samsung Epic Touch 4G, what’s to become of the smartphone’s name with the other carriers? Might the other carriers also be planning to abandon the names we had been expecting to see them use? Right now, it may only be speculation, but there are signs of a new Samsung model in the works for Verizon, and it sounds like it might just be the GS2.

With a name like the Samsung Stratosphere, we’d expect nothing less than top-tier performance. The name arises from some snooping about Verizon’s website, where there’s evidence that the carrier has placed some redirect pages in advance of the phone’s release.

There’s nothing that directly ties the name to the GS2, but there are at least a few arguments in favor. It may not be the outer-space realm of another galaxy, but the stratosphere is at least in the right direction. Both names conjure up images of the sky, and Samsung has been distributing mini-telescopes as GS2 promotional items.

So, we’ve got the Samsung Function, the Fascinate II, and now maybe the Stratosphere as potential Verizon GS2 names. Any guesses?
