Samsung Pay on Gear S3 smartwatch could work with ‘other’ Android phones

If Samsung really wants to threaten Apple’s comfortable domination of a once promising but now troublingly stagnating smartwatch market, the Gear S3 will need all the outside help it can get.

No more iOS compatibility fumbles, and enough limited public beta tests of Samsung Pay support already! Well, your wish may finally be the chaebol’s command, at least as far as the latter gripe is concerned, with Samsung Pay properly working on the Gear S3, including “with other Android devices running 4.4 KitKat or above.”

Other, as in not just select Galaxy phones like the S7 family, S6, S5, S4, Note 5, 4, 3, J3, J7, E5 and Grand Prime. Yes, it’s possible Samsung will soon welcome handhelds from rival OEMs on its rapidly-growing mobile payment platform, as long as they’re synched up to brand-new Frontier or Classic wearables.

Unfortunately, the rumor is far from officially confirmed at the moment, and we’re also extremely light on specifics and timetables. But we truly, madly, deeply want to believe.
