The Galaxy Note 8.0 isn't the only Android Samsung's announcing tonight, and its other new product is something a little bit new for the company, an Android-based home storage hub and media player, the Samsung HomeSync.

This Jelly Bean Android device runs a dual-core 1.7GHz SoC, has 1GB of RAM, 8GB of flash, and for all that media, a 1TB hard drive. It hooks up to your TV over HDMI and can connect to your local network over Gigabit Ethernet or WiFi. It will stream content right from your Galaxy phone, or can play back locally stored files. For connection to your home theater system, there's optical audio-out.

Remember the Samsung model GT-B9150 we saw benchmarked back at the beginning of the month? The device with a 1080p display and apparently running an Exynos 5 at 1.7GHz? Some rumors had that hardware associated with the name HomeSync, and while we're still waiting for confirmation, it's sounding likely that this is that very same model; even if Samsung is having problems with Exynos 5 power consumption, as we've heard rumored, there's no such cause for concern with a home-based system, so this could all make a lot of sense. This would also explain why we once saw the B9150 report a 720p screen in a separate benchmark — it would depend on the TV it was hooked up to. Now we just have to see if Samsung can succeed where the Nexus Q couldn't.

The Samsung HomeSync will go up for sale sometime in April.
