First Samsung Gear VR consumer edition is on sale at less than $50

The downside of swapping an unsafe Galaxy Note 7 for a similarly powerful S7 or S7 Edge, plus up to $100 in bill credit incentives? You no longer qualify for a free Samsung Gear VR headset as well, at least not stateside.

But fret not, as Amazon cares about your holiday budget, shaving 51 percent off the original consumer edition’s MSRP. This isn’t the first time we’re seeing the SM-R322 model heavily discounted, though no one can beat the new $49.35 price.

Better yet, there’s no expiration date listed, so the deal could last for a while. Or not, you never know, our advice being to just go for it if you’re the least bit interested or curious about virtual reality technology.

To be clear, you’re not looking at the USB Type C-compatible second-gen device launched alongside the explosive Note 7, but its late 2015 predecessor with micro USB connectivity and 96-degree field of view. For 50 bucks, that’s more than enough, as long as you intend to sync it to a Galaxy S7, S7 Edge, Note 5, S6 Edge+, S6 or S6 Edge.

Meanwhile, if you’re thinking of going the Google Pixel or Pixel XL route, just wait until November, when the stylish Daydream View arrives at $79, separate controller included.
