Gear VR 2? “New” Gear VR? Samsung seems to be referring to the refined second consumer edition of the super-affordable virtual reality headset more as the “Gear VR for Galaxy Note 7”, although it’s also compatible with the GS7, S7 Edge, Note 5, S6, S6 Edge, and Edge+, courtesy of both USB Type-C and micro USB connectors.

Not much has changed, as expected, the field of view being bumped up to 101 degrees, and color options now including blue and black. At 345 grams, or 312 without its front cover, the 2016 Samsung Gear VR sounds relatively lightweight, and it’s far from bulky too, measuring 207.8 x 122.5 x 98.6mm.

Designed so Note 7 users can “experience premium virtual reality, anywhere”, this bad boy will kick off pre-orders as early as tomorrow, August 3, on “select channels”, while actual sales are slated to begin two weeks from Friday, on the 19th. No official words on pricing or bundle deals… yet.
