Anyone planning to make a stop in Berlin, Germany during a late summer/early fall Eurotrip to catch one of the oldest, largest industrial exhibitions in the world is probably disheartened by Samsung’s decision to not only “unpack” the Galaxy Note 7 a full month ahead of IFA, but possibly launch the thing in August as well.
On the plus side, it’s now a near-certainty the Gear S3 smartwatch will be formally unveiled at or shortly before the 2016 Internationale Funkausstellung (International Radio Show), set to take place between September 2 and 7.
Was that ever doubtful? Not if you consider the IFA 2015 debut of the Gear S2, and the IFA 2014 pre-release demo of the first-gen Tizen timepiece. Then again, wearable evolution seems to be slowing down, with Apple or Huawei needing more than a year to upgrade their premium watches. No word on an imminent third-gen Moto 360 either, and the Samsung Gear S3 itself has been the protagonist of very few, very ambiguous rumors thus far.
The same unfortunately goes for today’s report, which claims to confirm the announcement timing and venue, plus a Gear S2-borrowed rotating bezel. All that felt like a safe bet already, but it’s important to note when credible sources corroborate even our most educated guesses.
