Samsung starts rolling out big Gear S2 ‘Value Pack’ update
Samsung Gear S3 rumors are still thin on the ground, despite the Galaxy Note 7 “unpacking” event and IFA Berlin inching closer, with the Gear S2 of course unveiled at the previous German trade show in September 2015.
Whether a sequel is in the pipeline or not, it’s nice to see the OG treated to its third incremental software update, previewed by tipsters very recently, and made official and fully detailed on the OEM’s newsroom portal earlier today.
While iOS support remains on hold, Android users willing to pair their compatible smartphones with the Tizen wearable should rejoice upon hearing the latter now offers direct downloads of watchfaces and recommended apps.
You can do a lot more from your wrist, even set your own photos as watchfaces, plus access the Contacts function as both an app and a widget, making calls or sending messages easier than ever.
S Health and S Voice are themselves notably improved, the former allowing you to share exercise results on social media, because what good is getting in shape if you can’t rub your progress in the faces of all your Facebook friends? The final host of more minor changes is applied to the Schedule, Weather, World Clock apps, as well as customer assistance.
Update: In addition to the above updates, Samsung has made available a beta of Samsung Pay capabilities to Gear S2 users. As a reminder, the watch can only perform NFC transactions.
