Samsung Gear S2 deemed a hit in Korea, where it’s twice as popular as the original
The first ever Tizen-powered circular wearable device hasn’t been available stateside long enough to gauge customer interest and box-office success, not to mention the cellular-enabled version will only go on sale from Verizon and T-Mobile next month.
But as always, Samsung jumped the gun in its domestic market, where early smartwatch adopters cleaned out Gear S2 pre-order inventory in a matter of hours. Granted, rumor is just around 1,000 units were initially up for grabs, though Korean distribution was quickly ramped up.
In the past few weeks, the beautiful, Android-compatible round timepiece reportedly racked up 2,000 daily orders in the Asian country alone, and so, stores unsurprisingly started to run out of stock again. If the speculation, so far unsupported by official manufacturer statements, proves legit, the Gear S2 has the makings of a great blockbuster, comfortably outselling the curved rectangular first-gen model.
Yes, back when the OG Gear S was the flavor of the day, it merely managed to pull in 1,000 sales every 24 hours in Korea. Of course, the Samsung Gear S2 also offers choice in addition to refined looks and a more comfortable form factor, and it’s actually the 3G-capable flavor that leads demand up to this point, with half of the family’s booming popularity to its name.
Meanwhile, the retro-fashioned Gear S2 Classic is probably produced in smaller quantities, “becoming scarce” already, and the standard, Bluetooth and Wi-Fi-limited configuration appears to be the least compelling buy, with the lowest price tag, but the fewest selling points as well.
