Galaxy S7 duo posts 100K unit sales in first two days on Korean store shelves

They look like more of the same, but they radically improve a number of things under the hood, as well as in the photography department, also bringing back two fan favorite features. Will that be enough for the Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 Edge to outsell their predecessors and defy the overall smartphone market’s recent stagnation?

European pre-order figures are quite encouraging, but in the OEM’s own homeland, demand was far from rampant ahead of Friday’s official launch. Then again, local press did suggest most prospective Korean buyers would seek to simply skip the pre-sale period, taking retail stores by storm once the handhelds are actually up for grabs.

That reportedly happened, at least in part, as domestic S7 and S7 Edge sales totaled “more than 100,000 units” on Friday and Saturday, March 11 and 12. Is 100K a lot? Well, it’s plenty, essentially matching “the initial pace” of the Galaxy S6 and S6 Edge at the Asian country’s box-office.

60,000 copies were purportedly sold during the two phones’ first retail hours, with an additional 40K snapped up over the course of the second day of availability. Surprisingly, the flat 5.1-inch variant exceeded the dual-curved 5.5-incher in regional popularity, unlike on the old continent, where the pricier Galaxy S7 Edge appears to reign supreme.

But the difference was minimal, with the “edgy” phablet still accounting for 40 percent of all sales, and so worldwide, it’s possible a perfect balance of sorts will be achieved.
