Just as we were wrapping-up 2011, a leaked screenshot from US Cellular’s computer network was released, revealing what seemed to be several models destined to arrive at the carrier. Those included a couple Samsung devices, with both the Galaxy S II and the Galaxy Tab 10.1 among those named. Since then, we’ve seen US Cellular formally announce the Tab 10.1, along with another Samsung handset called the Aviator, but there hasn’t been a peep about the GS2. That is, until today, at least, with US Cellular revealing plans to carry the GS2 for just about $230 on-contract.

US Cellular isn’t going to offer the Galaxy S II any cheaper than the larger US carriers, so this choice will likely be more about wireless plans and quality of service than anything else.

In its announcement, the carrier doesn’t give a specific date by which in intends to start GS2 sales. It speaks to the phone’s arrival as if it will be in the immediate future, but much is left ambiguous. On US Cellular’s website, the GS2 is marked as “coming soon”

With a dual-core 1.2GHz Exynos processor, the Galaxy S II is easily now the most capable smartphone available on US Cellular, outperforming the Motorola Electrify. Of course, the Samsung will set you back $100 more than the Motorola, but you get what you pay for.
