In true Samsung fashion, a new phone has been announced today: the Samsung Galaxy Alpha. But Samsung had already launched the Galaxy S5 mini… Which one is better? Which is worse? Which should you buy? Find out in our Samsung Galaxy Alpha vs Galaxy S5 mini specs comparison below.

We’ve become used to saying in pieces like these that “the two Samsung phones look pretty similar,” but that’s not actually the case here for once. While the S5 mini looks akin to the regular ole S5, the Alpha adopts a more squared-off metallic design (which we can certainly appreciate from a design standpoint).

Going into specs, these phones are pretty alike, but each has its own strong points. The Galaxy Alpha wins out in the SoC department with an octa-core processor, and in the storage and memory categories with 2GB of RAM and 32GB of ROM. It also has the stronger camera, at 12MP, and includes the WiFi 802.11ac band.

Moving on to the Galaxy S5 mini’s wins, the smaller screen makes for a higher pixel density, it has microSD expansion support (up to 64GB), and a larger, removable battery. It also features an IR blaster, which is missing from the Galaxy Alpha.

Take a look at the full comparison below, and check out our other Galaxy Alpha coverage here.
