Samsung Fascinate ED05 Update to Fix Incoming Call Bug

The last update released for the Samsung Fascinate on Verizon, software revision ED04, mainly looked like it was to prepare the smartphone for future updates, but it did promise one immediately-available feature: that it would improve incoming call connectivity. Apparently Samsung missed the mark a bit, because rather than make things better, ED04 managed to break incoming calls altogether for some users.

Rumors were spreading late last night that Verizon was taking the issue so seriously that it was offering to replace affected Fascinates for a more modern smartphone like the Droid X2. Before you go intentionality trying to mess up your Fascinate to score a free upgrade, we’ve got to warn you that it looks like you missed your opportunity, as Verizon has just revealed that Fascinate software ED05 is on its way, supposedly fixing the incoming call bug.

Like the Droid X2 Gingerbread update we just looked at, Verizon’s published the support page for the update in advance of its release; likely, it will be here in a matter of days. Beyond fixing this call issue, the update will install Google Books and correct a couple problems with SMS handling.
