Samsung Epic 4G, Epic 4G Touch About to See Updates on Sprint?
Users of the HTC EVO 3D on Sprint recently received an update that, amongst other changes, removed the controversial Carrier IQ software from their phones. We knew that Sprint was going to be making clean-up from this whole Carrier IQ fiasco a priority, and that we’d start seeing such updates arrive to strip the carrier’s phones of the offending software. We’re not sure if they’ll be the very next to see the same treatment, but a rumor says that Samsung’s Epic 4G and Epic 4G Touch will be on the receiving end of updates before the month is out, with at least one of them saying goodbye to Carrier IQ.
While the potential privacy implications posed by Carrier IQ are largely dependent on the wishes of carriers and as such we’re not that concerned with Sprint, seeing as it’s already taken steps that show it understands the Carrier IQ backlash a lot of users will sleep better knowing that the software is off their phones, once and for all. Supposedly, the Epic 4G Touch will see Carrier IQ removed by the end of the month.
As for the original Epic 4G, we haven’t heard specifically about Carrier IQ, but it’s also got an update in the works. This one would supposedly remove some of the bloatware the phone first came with, as well as patch a bug that causes audio distortion. Also look for this update to start going out before February.
