Samsung officially announced today its Android 2.3 Gingerbread update plans for Samsung Galaxy branded smartphones which include the Samsung Galaxy S, Galaxy Ace, Galaxy Gio, Galaxy Fit and Galaxy mini.

First to get the Gingerbread update will be the former flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S and the first users to receive the platform refresh via KIES will be those residing in the U.K. and Nordic countries starting from mid-May (which is already here). The update will then gradually roll out to other markets such as "Europe, North America, Southeast Asia, the Middle East Asia, Africa and rest of the world according to the regional plan".

The new version of Google's Android mobile platform will bring faster performance — with lower CPU consumption rate on multimedia content and support for more powerful 3D Graphics — and upgraded usability — with improved user interface, faster access and control and a more intuitive user experience in addition to an improved copy-paste functionality — to the smartphones mentioned.
