We’ve known for some time that pre-orders for the Google Nexus 7 tablet were doing quite well, but just how high has demand been? As the first shipments of tablets start arriving on customers’ doorsteps, reports are coming in from a number of retailers that they’ve already exhausted their own allocations for the Nexus 7.

In addition to Google, these retailers had been accepting pre-orders for the Nexus 7. GameStop has seen so much interest in the tablet that it’s already sold all the tablets Google arranged to make available in two separate allotments, leaving GameStop waiting until August before it can hope to get its hands on additional Nexus 7s. Sam’s Club, which had been similarly taking pre-orders, has had to close up shop, now marking the tablet as “out of stock”.

This doesn’t sound like it bodes well for your chances of finding the Nexus 7 in stores soon, but we imagine retailers had the forethought to reserve at least some of their share of tablets for brick-and-mortar sales.

Now we’re left wondering if all this Nexus 7 interest will manifest in a big bang like this, and quickly subside once everyone who was interested manages to get their hands on one, or if we’ll see sustained sales over the next several months, presumably leading up to the reveal of the iPad Mini.
