Google’s Project Jacquard is a touchy Levi’s Commuter trucker jacket

Who says we don’t cover pockets at Pocketnow?

Google’s Advanced Technologies and Products unit — you know, the one that’ll make sure Project Ara gets out to consumers next year — is working on another little ditty called “Project Jacquard”.

It is essentially trying to work with denim crafting company Levi‘s to make one of its signature Commuter trucker jackets, but with a cuff woven with touch sensors and a Bluetooth-enabled band embedded within. The band connects with your phone and allows you to swipe up or down on calls and notifications and even trigger actions — if third-party app developers get on board. You’ll have to remove the band from the jacket if you need to wash the latter, but hey! It’s washable.

We’re not sure how you’d be able to distinguish between different types of notifications and actions with the jacket, but we’re only just seeing the video below. With personal experience in this editor’s pocket, though, wearing one of these definitely beats dealing with even a smartwatch while staying within the lane.

The Levi’s® Commuter™ x Jacquard by Google trucker jacket “Beta” will be out in the fall while the full production should come in spring of 2017.
