Popular Android App, ShopSavvy, Coming Soon to Windows Mobile
ShopSavvy is a popular Android app that allows users to scan the barcode of any product using their device’s built-in camera. After the barcode is scanned, the app will quickly search the internet for the best prices and list the results. This is a great way to compare prices while you’re out shopping. With a little convincing, you could probably even use it to get some stores to price match certain products.
I’m sure most Windows Mobile users are well aware of such shopping apps available on other platforms. Aside from ShopSavvy for Android, the iPhone app store also has a plethora of these apps available to users. Unfortunately, barcode scanning apps are hard to come by for Windows Mobile. There’s Barcorama, but its interface is dull and development seems to have subsided for it. So where’s the Windows Mobile love?
Thankfully, the developers of ShopSavvy have decided to include Windows Mobile users in all the shopping fun. Their latest blog entry reveals that it could come sooner rather than later. In fact, they recently finished ShopSavvy for the iPhone and noted that the Windows Mobile version could actually hit Windows Marketplace first. The post states, “There is a chance that the Windows Mobile version of ShopSavvy may be available BEFORE the iPhone ouch. Initially, ShopSavvy will be available in Microsoft’s mobile market for 6.5. Eventually, it will be available for 6.1 7.0 Windows Mobile devices.”
