Pebble Time Round debuts as company’s first circular-screen smartwatch
For the past few days now, Pebble’s been counting down to an announcement, and the smart money seemed to be on this signaling the release of a big firmware update for first-gen Pebble watches. That would have made for some interesting news, sure, but what we got today has turned out to be a heck of a lot more compelling: Pebble has just drawn the curtain back on the Pebble Time Round, a super-thin smartwatch with a circular display.
Pebble Time Round features a color display, just like the Pebble Time, and will be available with either 14mm or 20mm band options. Users can look forward to two days of operation on a charge, and a quick 15-minute top-up should give you a full day’s worth of juice. And at just 7.5mm thin, the Pebble Time Round appears to be the thinnest smartwatch around – compare that to 10.5mm for the Apple Watch, or 11.4mm for the new Moto 360.
Pebble’s releasing the Time Round in a number of color options, including silver, black, and rose gold. All models are priced right around $250, and should ship in early November. Metal bands will be available further down the line, but aren’t among launch options (reflecting Pebble’s earlier struggles with steel band stocks).
If you’ve already got a Pebble Time Steel and are feeling a little buyer’s remorse, Pebble’s even got a program that will let you try both watches and only keep the one you like, effectively exchanging the Time Steel for the Time Round – check out the source link for full details.
