Pebble app store finally hits Android, new partner apps announced
A little over a month ago, Pebble really stepped up its smartwatch game with the launch of the Pebble app store, letting users discover and install new software to run right on their wrists. While the app store was immediately available for iOS users, Pebble wasn’t quite ready to deliver the Android version, and promised that it would show up “very, very soon.” In the weeks that followed we learned about progress towards the app, but still lacked a hard ETA. Just how long would we have to wait? Today we get our answer, as Pebble makes available its newly updated Android app, complete with Pebble app store support.
Beyond Android users simply getting access to the Pebble app store, we also learn about a few new commercial app partners: Evernote, eBay, and Time Warner Cable are all delivering their own Pebble apps. While you don’t necessarily get the same level of functionality as you might on your smartphone itself (for instance, the eBay app lets you browse items and mark them to be viewed later, you can’t actually buy anything), these efforts to flesh-out the Pebble app library with familiar names are well appreciated.
Finally, Pebble shares word that it’s getting its SXSW on this weekend, throwing a few events and showing off some of those new apps. If you’re in Austin for the festivities, swing by and check it out.
