It’s pretty obvious Google decided to put greater emphasis on Christmas savings than Black Friday or Cyber Monday deals this year, very recently taking $50 off the Nexus 5X and 6P, as well as throwing in $20 Play Store credit with second-gen Chromecast purchases, and further bundling in some sweet free premium content.

The latest special offer technically comes from PayPal, not the search giant, though Big G must have also given its blessing for your $3 discounts. Granted, 3 bucks isn’t a lot of money, but if you’ve been keeping an eye on apps, games, movies, books or magazine subscriptions worth $5, it’s going to be well received.

All you need to do is check out from Google Play using your US or Canada-registered PayPal account on an order of $5 or more, and the $3 deduction will be applied automatically.

There seems to be a bit of confusion regarding the promo’s validity stateside, as the terms and conditions specifically mention your “Canadian PayPal account must be in good standing”, but also that the deal is “only open to PayPal users in the United States and Canada.”

What’s guaranteed is you have until January 1 to take advantage of it. And no, you can’t claim the discount on gift certificates or gift cards.
