Pantech Vega Racer To Be 1.5GHz Dual-Core Android?
Pantech hasn’t had much to say about smartphones in the US lately; after a lull, the company should be re-emerging on the scene next month, thanks to the planned release of a ruggedized QWERTY slider on AT&T. Just because we don’t get to see them in the west doesn’t mean that the company hasn’t been busy with plenty of other smartphones, destined for release in Asian markets. The latest of these we’ve heard about looks like it could be a real powerhouse: an Android called the Vega Racer powered by a Qualcomm MSM8660 dual-core 1.5GHz Snapdragon.
In addition to the raw processing power the CPU will provide the Vega Racer, the smartphone will benefit from a full gigabyte of RAM, and the graphics generated by an Adreno 220 GPU. Like any top-tier Android, you’ll find dual cameras, with an 8-megapixel main sensor and a 1.3-megapixel front-facer. The 4.3-inch WVGA LCD may not be qHD, but it should suffice. To its credit, Pantech intends to cram all this hardware into a nine-millimeter-thick frame; maybe not the thinnest around, but darn close.
Pantech should be launching the Vega Racer in Korea this June; don’t hold your breath for a US release.
