The OPPO R-series keeps on delivering some excellent, if conventional phones to us. The OPPO R9 and R9 Plus didn’t disappoint us in that aspect and neither have they disappointed its manufacturer when it came to first-day sales (though they haven’t been Xiaomi-good). According to a company release, it’s boasting 180,000 of those sales in China through both online and offline distributions.

The standard R9 comes in at around $430 while the R9 Plus goes to $510 and both come in with a mid-range MediaTek Helio processor and 16-megapixel selfie cameras. That last bit is probably the biggest bullet point OPPO wants to push as it’s been getting some celebrity endorsements behind the phone.

While bread and butter action is totally fine, we’re yearning to see the OPPO days of yore when it took liberty to play around with its smartphones. Perhaps that might be soon enough.
