The OnePlus One has been a bit of a unicorn, despite retail boxes finally heading out to buyers in most countries the phone is sold in. We say most, as a design change in the OnePlus One has lead to one of the worst possible reasons for even more of a hold-up, at least in the European Union (one of the biggest markets for smartphone sales, we might add).

The story is this — all handsets hoping to clear the European customs process must bear the “CE” regulatory logo. That’s all fine and dandy, and the OnePlus One does indeed carry it, but OnePlus decided to give the logo a bit of a makeover in order to bring it more in line with the other regulatory symbols. This unfortunately didn’t fly well with European authorities, so the One is delayed… yet again.

Here’s what OnePlus had to say in an email to a buyer:

For the back cover, we wanted the regulatory icons and text to be in harmony with each other and appear be as minimalistic as possible. In order to achieve this, we modified the CE icon to match the other icons. This was deemed unacceptable and our shipment was returned.

The OnePlus One design change will cause the phone to be delayed by two weeks so the company can take care of the situation, but buyers will receive a complimentary cover and screen protector when they do get their device. Alternatively, they can choose to cancel their order for a full refund.
