OnePlus told us something was going to happen by the end of the year that wasn’t the OnePlus 2. The Oppo spin-off has had an interesting series of moments from Carl Pei to Carl Pei. Well, we might be able to divine what’s going on with the company and its ambitions during an event next week.

But this time, there’s no VR and no Pei. Pete Lau, CEO and founder of OnePlus, will join Vikas Agarwal, General Manager of Indian operations, in Bengaluru (“Bangalore,” for us Westerners) for an event sometime next week.

The invitation has the “The Next Big Step” written on it and given Carl Pei’s recent comments on what he wants to do concerning Samsung, it’s certainly weird that we’re seeing these words right now.

OnePlus X has been the operating name for eastern hemisphere rumor mills while in the west, we’ve been dealing with that name and the OnePlus Mini. The lead-up for the little sibling of the this year’s OnePlus lineup has been fraught with screen, camera(s) and SoC rumors.

Again, we only know that the event is next week. Whenever it happens, we’ll pass what we know along to you.
