Starting a couple weeks back, HTC’s been pushing Android 5.0 Lollipop updates out to more and more of its One M8 handsets. Following initial availability for dev units and unlocked models, yesterday we learned that mass distribution was underway for the One M8 in Europe. That marked a huge number of new users who suddenly saw their One M8s gaining access to the update, and HTC’s momentum isn’t slowing down now. Less than 24 hours later, that update’s starting to make its presence felt on North American shores, as we get word One M8 Lollipop updates are descending upon Canada.

HTC Canada had already set February 1 as its target date for delivery of Lollipop for both the One M8 and 2013’s One M7. We’re still waiting for any trace of the M7’s update, but the One M8’s has arrived a few days in advance of that deadline, and HTC confirms availability for users on Bell, Wind Mobile, and SaskTel as of today. Additional Canadian carriers should get access to the One M8’s Lollipop update soon, but we don’t have any further information on an ETA than what’s already been provided.

For those of us south of the 49th parallel, this may feel like an ongoing part of one big tease, but have faith: the US carriers will certify One M8 updates in due time. Just how much time is difficult to say with any specificity; HTC reports that updates for US carriers are currently in their integration phase, which could still spell several weeks before availability. That said, with the speed at which the rest of this roll-out has been accelerating, we’re optimistic that we could start seeing signs of its release soon.
