Windows Phone HTC One M8 rumors pick up possible name, launch window

By Stephen Schenck July 29, 2014, 10:00 am

Yesterday morning we told you about the latest rumor to concern HTC’s future with Windows Phone, once again bringing up the idea that the company was working on a WP version of its flagship One M8 Android model. But really, outside the assertion that this project was happening (and likely before the end of the year), we didn’t have much to go on. We’re still anxious to pick up new details, but at least a couple more have turned up since yesterday, looking into possible launch plans and carrier interest.

First up, we have a name, with this handset supposedly arriving as the One (M8) for Windows. And instead of leaving us hanging until the end of the year, we hear about a much earlier launch window, with word that Verizon, at least, could add the phone to its lineup sometime this quarter.

Worried that “One (M8) for Windows” doesn’t exactly flow off the tongue? It’s a little unwieldy, sure, but remember how we were similarly concerned that the One M8 would launch as the “all new HTC One?” Verizon may still use that language, but the other carriers have adopted the much shorter “One M8;” we wonder if we might not be looking at a similar situation here.

In addition to the name, this rumor touches briefly on the phone’s features, and all the big hardware components should be making the journey over to Windows Phone. We also hear about new features in the works, like VoLTE support, though that may have to wait for Microsoft’s WP8.1 GDR1 release, depending on just when this phone ships.
