The OG Google Nexus 10, manufactured by Samsung to take on the last non-Air 9.7-inch iPad back in 2012, is officially past its software expiration date, but that doesn’t mean it’s not technically capable of running the newest Android iteration.

Unfortunately, you’ll need to wait a couple more months before the independent CyanogenMod developer team can altogether stabilize Marshmallows on the surprisingly well-kept 10-inch tablet. For the time being, there are only two CM13 nightly builds available to download, each tipping the scales at roughly 250MB, and likely presenting bugs “normal” users could probably not tolerate.

The secret is to expect the worst in terms of device stability, always be prepared to roll back to Lollipop, and appreciate the small upgrades that do work as Big G intended them to. Far less popular than the Nexus 4, the other stock Android-powered gadget released over three years ago and left in the dust, the N10 must still have its own little community of nostalgia-filled devotees.

After all, it’s amazingly sharper than both the iPad Air 2 and just-unveiled Galaxy TabPro S, delivering 2,560 x 1,600 pixels resolution (on an LCD rather than Super AMOLED panel), further packing a decrepit but good enough dual-core Exynos 5250 chip, 2GB RAM, and massive 9,000 mAh battery.

Why are there no sequels in the pipeline for this bad boy or at least the HTC-designed Nexus 9 again?
