Oculus is about to be more visible than ever before this weekend as the company can finally stop going it alone in sales.
Its Rift headset will be coming to the Microsoft Store online and Amazon on May 6 at noon Eastern. It’ll also hit the brick-and-mortars with 48 Best Buy stores nationwide demonstrating and selling the virtual reality rig starting on May 7 with more locations soon to stock the Rift.
Oculus warns of limited inventories as it’s already barely keeping up with pre-order volume. If you already did put in a pre-order and are arranging to get a demo and a purchase at a Best Buy, just let Oculus know and it’ll stop the gears and refund you while still giving you EVE: Valkyrie for free.
Fair warning: these 48 Best Buys are in pretty remote locations, so prepare to gas up if you do manage to make a reservation. But that’s pretty much the cherry on top to the attention it will attract with in-store and on-site marketing.
The HTC Vive is also aiming for similar physical retail availability through GameStop and, yes, the Microsoft Store.
