Nokia leak appears to reveal schedule for Cyan firmware, Windows Phone 8.1 updates
Just a few hours back we shared with you the latest info to help give us a sense for when to expect Windows Phone 8.1 updates to begin arriving for existing WP8 phones, with chatter out of Australia suggesting that things could get underway as soon as later this month. While we weren’t 100% confident with just how reliable that news might be, it’s still something we’re quite interested in, as despite ongoing availability of the 8.1 Preview for Developers, Microsoft has yet to announce any hard dates for when 8.1 OTA updates might come to current phones. You know what they say about raining, then pouring, and now we’ve got a second source to check out with some additional details about possible 8.1 update release plans.
Like those Verizon leaks we just looked at, this one’s another treat from @evleaks, who brings us what appears to be an internal Nokia chart from Western Europe.
All that “WP Blue” stuff you see down below on the right marks our 8.1 updates, and here they’re depicted starting to head out to users in mid-July (the numbers up top mark the week of the year).
But that said, even assuming this information is accurate, this leak doesn’t address individual carriers, and there’s the very real likelihood that their involvement could delay the arrival of updates for locked handsets. Or maybe that’s why the bars themselves are so long – to account for late starts.
