Nokia To Sue HTC Over Windows Phone 8 Designs?

When HTC made its new Windows Phone 8 lineup official last week, one of the first thoughts to cross our minds when seeing all those bright, bold colors and eye-catching designs was how Nokia-esque the Windows Phone 8X and 8S appeared. Well, apparently we weren’t alone, as now at least one tipster is claiming that Nokia is gearing-up to launch a legal volley at HTC, with the hopes of preventing sales for at least one of its new models due to allegations of copying Nokia’s look.

What PC-Tablet calls an “internal reliable source” says that Nokia thinks HTC’s 8X looks too much like the Lumia 820 from the front. We can sort of see that, though the similarities are far from cut-and-dry.

This kind of in-fighting progressing to the point of lawsuits is nearly unheard of from the Windows Phone camp, and considering the tight leash Microsoft keeps on its OEMs, we honestly wouldn’t expect things to devolve to the point of legal action; shouldn’t Microsoft be stepping-in and whipping some sense into these guys?

For now, we’re open to learning more about this alleged legal action, but until we see some documents filed with a court, treat this one very much as an unsubstantiated rumor.
