While speaking at Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecoms Conference in Barcelona, Stephen Elop, CEO of Nokia, said that “in the early days our first competitors are the other ecosystems”. Elop also told Reuters that the pricing on the two Lumia devices launched is “so that that we can get what we think will be a good volume”.

Nokia is expecting sales volume to be a differentiator and competitive advantage of the company over the competition. However, Elop sees Nokia Windows Phones priced both lower and higher than current devices today. With regards to developers, Nokia’s CEO said that the company needs “to ship volumes of devices to further attract them”.

As far as the U.S. market is concernet, AT&T said that it was already in talks with Nokia regarding sales of Windows Phones next year. “We look at every promotional period separately and decide what we’re going to spend our dollars on and what we’re going to put our efforts in”, said Glenn Lurie, AT&T’s President of Emerging Devices and Resale, while at the same event in Spain.
