Qi Wireless Charger Face-Off: Nokia DT-900 vs. Energizer (Video)

By Joe Levi January 30, 2013, 1:17 pm

We've been taunted and teased with the dream of inductive charging for years, and now it's finally here! Well, it's here for some of us. After more than a few competing standards have been quietly battling it out, the Qi (pronounced "chee") standard seems to be the one that is going to be here to stay.

In the early days if you wanted to inductively charge your device you needed to either buy a replacement battery and door with the technology built-in, or a "backpack"-style case that included the necessary induction coil and circuitry to enable chargers to replenish the battery inside your smartphone or tablet wirelessly. These were usually fairly bulky and didn't look all that great.

Today, two chargers have risen to the top of a relatively short list: the Nokia DT-900 and the Energizer Inductive Charger (which comes in single as well as dual configurations). The "Fat Boy" charging pillow is just a DT-900 tucked inside a cute, padded sleeve, and the the Nexus 4 Wireless Charging Orb hasn't made it to retail yet. There are other chargers that we've seen announced that combine wireless charging with a speaker dock, alarm clock, or other such thing, but if we're talking pure chargers, these are the two you'll want to look at.

How do they compare and contrast? Hit play and let's find out!

Notably missing are Qi-enabled car docks. If anyone has a line on where I can get one of those, let me know in the comments!
