Nexus Protect arrives to offer new Nexus owners extended warranty options

The new Nexus phones are here, bringing us not just new hardware, but all the joys of Android 6.0 Marshmallow. We’re also learning about changes coming to how Google sells its phones, with an increased emphasis on direct sales through the online Google Store. Just like in previous years, shoppers can go online to pick up an unlocked Nexus phone, ready to be used at the carrier of their choice, but this time around there’s a new option to consider, as Google introduces its Nexus Protect extended support plan.

We first heard rumors about this effort a couple weeks back, and today Google confirms them. Nexus Protect adds a second year of hardware warranty coverage to Nexus purchases, and two years of accidental damage coverage (up to two incidents) – and that even includes overnighting you a new phone while yours is being repaired.

Coverage will cost just about $70 for the Nexus 5X, or $90 for the Nexus 6P.
