Well folks, the Cingular 3125, based on the HTC Star Trek platform, has officially launched. Announced at CTIA Wireless IT and Entertainment 2006 in Las Vegas, it promises to be one of Cingular's most exciting WM Smartphones to date.
While the 3125 is based on the HTC StrTrk (which is also known as the i-mate Smartflip/Qtek 8500/Dopod S300), it incorporates two essential changes from the StrTrk base model.

  1. 128MB ROM, as opposed to 64MB. This effectively eliminates the memory handling issue some heavy smartphone users were complaining about.

  2. Battery upgrade to 1100mAh from the standard 750mAh to alleviate the below average battery life.

Additionally, the 3125 ships with a carrier customized ROM, including Medianet, Music, and other Cingular specific applications installed. Cingular sent out an eval unit to me a while ago, and I must say, I am impressed! The 3125 retails for $149 with a contract. Expected availability is end of September.
