Xiaomi and Lenovo are getting into Windows phones this year
Could the addition of new Windows phone OEM partners help provide the sales boost Microsoft is hoping for? We’ll know that answer for sure soon, as the Redmond, Calif. based company has unveiled today at the WinHEC conference two new partners which will be working to bring Windows to their smartphones.
Let’s talk Lenovo, first of all. Right now details are murky on whether Lenovo’s upcoming Windows device will run the current Windows Phone OS (8.1) or come out only after Windows 10 for phones becomes available later this year. Considering the image in the tweet embedded below, the former looks to be implied, but we can’t be sure. According to CNBC, the Lenovo device will be available through China Mobile later this year.
The Xiaomi situation is a bit more unclear, with Microsoft motioning that a “select group of Xiaomi Mi 4 power users” will be able to run the Windows 10 preview build – we’re not sure if this means that Xiaomi will be producing any Windows Phones too, but the possibility isn’t ruled out here.
