Next Samsung Gear Fit might be a more affordable variant

Even though Samsung can be credited for being one of the first companies to believe in wearables as a category, it’s hard to praise the company for its efforts. While some products have proven to be quite popular during their buzz periods, it’s hard to not notice how quickly people have stopped caring about them. Such is the case of the Samsung Gear Fit, which promised a lot in the fitness category, but didn’t really deliver, and today we learn of some future plans.

Sources claim that Samsung is working on a model number SM-R150, which is actually a couple of numbers bellow the SM-R350 that belongs to the original Samsung Gear Fit. The source believes that this is because this new wearable will actually be less feature-packed than the Samsung Gear Fit, which is not necessarily a good thing. Yes, we do know that there is a more affordable market that Xiaomi is catering to with its $15 Mi Band, but even Fitbits more expensive offerings continue to grow as well. Samsung has clearly noticed that fitness trackers as a stand alone product are important enough, and this product could be built with that in mind.

Sadly we don’t know much else for this possible Samsung fitness tracker, but next year’s tradeshows could reveal more.
