New Google Play Store Arriving: Get It Now

Despite rumors about devices like that Galaxy S 4 Google Edition, there’s a feeling going in to Google I/O that this year’s event could be much more focused on services than hardware. We’re looking forward to news of Google Play Games, and in the hours leading up to the conference a new version of the Google Play Store has started arriving.

On the surface, this looks to be a relatively minor polishing-up job. The app gets a few new button and image designs, and the colors are tweaked in some areas. Google also updated a couple text strings, and cleaned up how you redeem gift cards.

There are also some more useful changes, like notifications when you’re about to download a larger update over mobile data and improved behavior when updating all apps while some introduce new permissions.

We know, that’s all a bit hard to get excited about, but not every update’s going to be a huge overhaul. If you’re still interested in getting a head start on everyone and not waiting for notification of the update to arrive, you can download the new Google Play Store through the link below.

Update: We’ve got word of one feature in this update that’s actually worth getting excited about: app data sync.
