Apple Watch picks up new low price, woven nylon band option, fresh band colors

We knew that Apple smartphone and tablet hardware would be the stars of today’s event, but had long heard that they wouldn’t be alone, with at least some Apple Watch news joining them. But what would it be? A whole new Watch model was a possibility, and while we heard a little about possible new features, sources didn’t seem particularly convinced Apple would be ready to share a second-gen watch. Instead, we started to pick up chatter about possible new band options. Today at Apple’s event, Tim Cook announced just that, sharing a new band material, new colors … and a new low Apple Watch starting price.

First, up, we’ve got a new woven nylon band, which you can see above.

Beyond the new band itself, Apple is bringing new color options to existing band designs, including sport, leather, and Milanese loop bands.

How about that price? While the base Apple Watch Sport model used to start at about $350, Apple’s dropping that to just $300 going forward. We haven’t yet heard if that discount will be consistent across all models, will just apply to the Sport model or what; we’ll update with details once the Apple Store goes live again.
