Apple is expected to introduce a refresh to its popular Apple TV sometime this summer, and, according to recent reports, the newest generation Apple TV will also bring a redesigned remote. The new Apple TV remote is expected to have a touchpad and also be slightly thicker than the current minimalist remote, said an employee who claims has been briefed on the product.

In addition to the touchpad, which will be used to scroll and move around (pretty much like the Remote app on your iPhone), there will also be two physical buttons, most likely for Menu and Play/Pause, like on the current Apple TV remote.

Expected to see the light of day next month, the new Apple TV remote, together with the set-top box refresh, will be the first major redesign of the remote since its in introduction in 2007.
