Motorola Triumph Pre-Orders Open; Phone Gets Priced

For a smartphone that’s not state-of-the-art and lacks any real gimmick, we’ve been paying pretty close attention to the Motorola Triumph on Virgin Mobile. If anything, it’s what the phone lacks that we find so interesting: no custom Android UI, and no contract required. We don’t get to see many phones worth mentioning initially released without carrier subsidies in the States, after all, so we were very interested in seeing how the Triumph would be priced to compensate. We’ve got our answer now, and it’s not too bad.

Best Buy is now accepting pre-orders for the Triumph, revealing its nearly-$300 price tag. That’s just slightly more than you’d shell out for a new LTE-capable Android on Verizon, ON-contract. Spec-wise, the Triumph is comparable to some phones that sell now off-contract for north of $400. When you compare it against Virgin Mobile’s other Android offerings, none come close to the Triumph’s big 4.1-inch screen or have features like a front-facing camera.

Now that we know what it will cost, when will the Triumph be available. Best Buy doesn’t say on its pre-order page, but we’ve seen an advertisement claiming the smartphone will arrive on July 19. Anyone looking forward to it, now?
