Maybe it’s just due to the overwhelming effect the Galaxy S III has had on smartphone news over the past month or two, but it seems like Motorola’s Droid RAZR HD has been very stealthy about its progress towards arrival on the scene, dropping signs of its presence here and there, but not really making a big splash yet. We’ve seen the model appear in recent Cellebrite data, suggesting it’s well on its way to landing at Verizon, but have yet to get a really good look at the phone. Today we have a new pair of pictures to check out, showing what appears to be the RAZR HD as it will come to Verizon.

The Kevlar backing definitely evokes memories of the original Droid RAZR, but the design lacks that model’s prominent camera bulge. That may be due to the RAZR HD taking a cue from the RAZR Maxx and going with an extended-life battery; we had been wondering how the RAZR HD might address that issue, and if we’d see two versions of it, but perhaps there will only be the one high-capacity option.

It’s a shame we don’t get to see the phone’s HD display here, as the source who provided these images notes just how amazing it looks.

There’s no precise word on when the RAZR HD might arrive, but it’s looking like it could still be a couple months away.
