It hasn’t been that long since we first heard of Motorola’s Photon 4G, nor since Motorola and Sprint officially announced the smartphone last month. The WiMAX-equipped Android has hardware specs that remind us of Motorola’s Atrix 4G on AT&T, though you may find the Photon more stylish with its beveled corners, giving it a very Battlestar-Galacticy look. The Photon 4G is supposed to arrive sometime this summer, but we’ve yet to hear even so much as a rumor saying just when that will be (short of a broad “July”). It looks like we’re getting closer, though, with what appears to be the Photon 4G showing up today in some FCC documentation.

We’re in a similar situation with this paperwork as we were earlier this month with what we think was the Motorola Bionic. That is to say, there’s very little in these documents that helps us identify the smartphone, known here only as model P56MD1. Just like with the Bionic, though, the choice of RF bands helps us drastically narrow down the field of potential candidates. Just as we weren’t expecting any other Motorolas on Verizon LTE, the Photon 4G is the only Motorola we know of lined-up for Sprint WiMAX.

The Photon 4G will rock a dual-core Tegra 2, have a gig of RAM, and feature a 4.3-inch qHD display when it finally arrives at Sprint in the coming weeks.
