On Tuesday, Verizon updated its support page for the Motorola Droid X2, publishing details on the smartphone’s Android 2.3 upgrade in advance of the code’s actual distribution. With Verizon, that can mean a matter of days, or even a week before the update actually starts going out OTA. In this case, we didn’t have too long of a wait to deal with, because now Verizon’s tweeted that distribution of the Droid X2’s Gingerbread update is starting.

Now, we haven’t yet heard of anyone actually receiving the update, so Verizon may be starting off with a smaller test group (it does explain the update is going out in stages), or it might be waiting to kick things off a little later in the day. Once things get rolling, though, you should receive your update notification within the following several days.

This update, in addition to bringing Gingerbread to the Droid X2, will advance the phone’s UI to the latest version of Blur, and include changes to increase system stability and fix some assorted X2 bugs. If you were having issues getting widgets to behave properly on your home screen, this update should take care of it, as well a certain problems related to HDMI output and device behavior while docking.
