We’re running out of synonyms for “powerful,” “rugged,” and “beastly” around these parts, so to kick off this photo tour we’ll just say that the Motorola DROID Turbo is an absolute monster of a smartphone. Verizon’s flashy new exclusive bears all the smarts of the impressive Moto X, mated to the screaming specs of an absolutely top-of-the-line handheld. From the Snapdragon 805 to the 3900 mAh battery, this ain’t your average Verizon variant.

Of all the ways the DROID Turbo advertises its take-me-seriously dominance, the most apparent is its fit and finish.  The Turbo is available (in either red or black) in a metalized glass fiber that resembles the kevlar microweave of prior generations … or in an all-new ballistic nylon material (in black only) that gives the phone a unique fabric-like texture that recalls rugged backpacks or police armor. In the latter case, the corners and sides are protected by a soft touch-coated frame that further protects the Turbo against damage from drops. All versions of the device feature Motorola’s water-resistant nanocoating on both exterior and interior surfaces, along with Gorilla Glass 3 protecting the Quad HD screen around front.

These material choices and durability add-ons combine with trim elements like the Motorola logo, deeply sunk camera module and textured side buttons to give our 176g DROID Turbo a very hefty feel in the hand, and an unquestionably rugged look even when just sitting on the table. The former characteristic is one we hope to communicate further in our full review coming soon; the latter can be seen in our hands-on gallery below. Enjoy, and let us know what you think of this powerful rugged beastly monstrosity down in the comments below!
