Motorola Connect for Chrome brings calls, texts to your browser
It’s just a few hours to go until we’ll be able to bring you some hands-on accounts of the new Motorola Moto X, but in the meantime, some early software has just arrived for the handset, helping connect Motorola smartphones with your home PC.
Motorola has published Motorola Connect to the Chrome store, offering compatibility with the Moto X, as well as the new Droid Ultra, Maxx, and Mini for Verizon. Once installed, the extension will let users of the Chrome browser get notifications of incoming calls and texts right on their computer screens, and even reply to texts without the need to pull out their phones.
As others have noted, it’s not like this is altogether new functionality, with services like Google Voice already providing something along these lines, but the implementation here does look pretty sleek and well thought-out. Our one big complaint is that it’s wholly unnecessary to drag Chrome into this business, and a PC-based notification system would have been far more accessible if just released as a stand-alone system tray app.
