Motorola announces Moto G

There have been a lot of rumors concerning the Moto G; some tried to anticipate its specs, some its price tag, but most agreed on the fact that it will be a budget-friendly Moto X (a phone which was, and still is, very popular among reviewers, but sadly analysts seem to disagree). Nonetheless, Motorola has just made the Moto G official, after talking, in the introduction, about the Moto X, and Moto Maker (and a KitKat update which will be available “in a matter of weeks”).

The Motorola Moto G packs a 4.5-inch screen with a 720p resolution and it is powered by a quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 400 processor clocked at 1.2GHz, aided by 1GB of RAM. The battery powering the phone is a 2,070mAh unit that provides all-day-long battery, and in addition to all that, Moto G comes with Android 4.3, with a KitKat upgrade guaranteed to come later. There are two storage options: 8, and 16GB.

As far as customization is concerned, the Moto G has removable backs; Motorola Shells and active-grips, plus flip-shells (which protect the phone and turn it on), give you additional customization options. There are also a speakers and headsets, power-packs, and other accessories.

The price of the Moto G is $179 for the 8GB version, unlocked, in the US. The 16Gb version will set you back $199. And, it will cost a fraction of the price of premium phones around the world, says Motorola. The phone will also be available via carriers, though the price might be a tad lower or higher.

As far as the software is concerned, the Moto G’s software is based on ‘pure’ Android. An Android 4.4 KitKat update will be delivered by January of 2014 though, according to Motorola.

The Moto G is available as of today in regions of Europe and Brazil, and it will come to the US in early January, alongside India, the Middle East and more of Asia. In the next couple of weeks it will be available throughout Latin America, Europe, Canada and parts of Asia.
