Motorola One Mid

Bring on the Android updates for older hardware! We just shared with you word that T-Mobile was getting the ball rolling on the eagerly awaited Android 5.1.1 update for last year’s Galaxy S5, and now we’re getting info on some similar releases headed out to a couple popular Androids from a different OEM, as Motorola makes its own Android 5.1 updates available for the Moto X family.

We’re looking at updates for the first-gen Moto X, as well as the second-gen Moto X 2014 Pure Edition. The original Moto X’s update got started late last week, as Motorola’s David Schuster confirmed over social media – it’s hitting users in the US, Brazil, and Canada. As for the Moto X 2014 Pure Edition, it looks like we’re just in soak test territory for the moment. Even with that limited availability, this is still promising news, especially after Motorola tried to get a similar release going a few weeks ago, only for an unexpected glitch to derail things.

It’s not yet clear just when broader availability might commence for the 2014 Moto X – or better yet, for versions beyond the Pure Edition – but this sounds like a promising development all the same.
