Motorola Ambitiously Plans for 2 GHz Smartphones

After having quietly updated the CPU specs on its Milestone XT720 tablet for Europe, Motorola’s CEO is ambitiously anticipating a 2 GHz smartphone by year’s end. Current top of the line smartphones, including the HTC EVO 4G, the Droid Incredible, and the Samsung Galaxy S, all clock in at 1 GHz and Qualcomm has committed to a dual-core 1.5 GHz Snapdragon processor but the system on a chip maker hasn’t commented on a 2 GHz solution. Another Motorola executive is saying that the company will be employing NVIDIA’s Tegra solution to bring HD recording and output to the company’s handset. Also to be found, and not to be bested by Apple, would be a gyroscope.

Motorola’s potential move to an NVIDIA solution would be a change for the company, which has traditionally employed Texas Instruments CPUs in its high-end lineup.
