Moto Maker and North American availability for Moto G4 detailed

Motorola celebrated the birth of its Moto G⁴ triplets in India today and we seem to still be in baby shower mode.

Profiles of the Moto G⁴ models have officially gone up on Motorola’s website, but there’s a telling comparison chart at the bottom of the Moto G family page. Both the standard Moto G⁴ and the Moto G⁴ Style have different eight back coloring options that can be chosen through Moto Maker. It’s down from the 10 the Moto G 3rd Gen. had. The budget-focused Moto G⁴ Play doesn’t have any back coloring options — the lack of that feature and several others puts the device more in line with the Moto E.

While the phones are expected to range in price between $150 and $250, there’s clear delineation of what customizations you’ll have to choose from come time to order.

Speaking of, that time to order seems to vary depending on your location. In Canada, Motorola says to expect the Moto G⁴ Plus “starting early summer” while the Moto G⁴ Play will make it around “late summer.” The standard G⁴ may not be coming up north. In the US, all three models will be available around “mid-summer”. It looks likely that the duly-renamed “Moto G³” will remain on the metaphorical shelf with the new models.

You know what they say: “You get what you pay for.”
