Microsoft to Invest $1 Billion in Mobile

Number eight on our list of reasons Why Windows Phone 7 Series Will Succeed is that Microsoft is one of the richest companies in the world, and they have the staying power (and dollars) to pump huge amounts of money into mobile until they score a win. Case and point: Forbes is reporting that Microsoft is planning to invest $1 Billion in mobile, and this is just for R&D (we’re thinking that Microsoft is very serious about updating Windows Phone 7 Series on a very regular basis, so they need to pay lots of very smart people to make this happen). The article also debunks rumors that Microsoft is considering an acquisition of Palm, because their dollars for mobile are going to building new stuff, and not buying.
